Montcalm Township Board tables hiring planner

The decision to hire a planner to assist this township with its wind ordinance and master plan won’t happen for at least another month.

During Wednesday’s meeting of the Montcalm Township Board, the board had before it a proposal from the lone candidate who submitted a bid to work for the township in the role of a planner — Mark Eidelson of Okemos-based Landplan Inc.

‘Hometown girl’: Montcalm County’s Lena Rader Meijer dies at age 102

Lena Rader Meijer, who grew up on a farm near Amble, went to school in Lakeview, married retail entrepreneur Fred Meijer and was a longtime member of the Meijer Board of Directors, died on Saturday at the age of 102.

Fast action by a homeowner and a firefighter helped keep a fire from spreading Thursday evening.

The Stanton Community Fire Department responded at 6:57 p.m. to a report of a structure fire at 5144 W. Briggs Road in Douglass Township.

Pine Township shed destroyed, livestock safe

A fire destroyed a small shed used to shelter goats on Thursday afternoon.

The Lakeview District Fire Department responded at 12:41 p.m. to a report of a structure fire at 8664 W. Stanton Road in Pine Township.
