Ionia County taps soon to be ex-Belding city manager as Road Department directorAfter more than a year without a Road Department director, the Ionia County Board of Commissioners has finally found someone they think has the right mix of knowledge and experience for the job.
Commissioners voted 5-0 on Tuesday to extend an offer to outgoing Belding city manager John Niemela at his requested salary of $97,000, plus benefits, immediately after interviewing him for the position.

Belding hires MML to help with search for new city manager
The city is opting to move forward with the Michigan Municipal League (MML) when searching for a new manager.
During a special meeting on Thursday, the Belding City Council voted 3-1 to hire MML to assist them at a cost of $17,000. Councilman Mike Scheid voted “no” while Councilman Jorel Davis, Mayor Bruce Meyers and Councilwoman Bonita Steele voted “yes.”
Onekama forfeits, Vestaburg football now 5-0
The Vestaburg Wolverines’ football team was set to travel to Onekama to put their undefeated record on the line Saturday before Onekama forfeited the contest.
Vestaburg head coach Dan Ryckman was informed of the forfeiture and was told Onekama had a lack of available players for the game.

JUST IN: Comstock Park man dies in Sunday morning crash on U.S.-131
FREEThe Michigan State Police Lakeview Post is investigating a single vehicle crash that resulted in fatal injuries to a 27-year-old male driver from Comstock Park early Sunday morning.
Troopers were dispatched around 2:29 a.m. to the scene on northbound U.S.-131, north of M-46, in Montcalm County’s Reynolds Township.
