I recently returned home from a week-long camping trip with my family and our significant others. We explored as much as we possibly could have in the Upper Peninsula with the time that we had. We picked a few places that we wanted to visit and I booked campsites over six months ago to ensure that we could get reservations at the places we wanted to stay.

Winfield Township residents form nonprofit, retain attorney in response to wind/solar energy discussion

A nonprofit organization has been formed by residents in response to Winfield Township’s ongoing work on wind and solar energy ordinances.

Tricia Korhorn of Winfield Township reported during last Thursday’s Winfield Township Board meeting that Winfield Township True has been formed by township residents.

Greenville planners OK self storage business expansion

The Greenville Planning Commission has given conditional approval for a local storage unit to expand.

Commissioners voted unanimously on Aug. 12 to allow North Greenville Self Storage to construct an additional two storage unit buildings, which upon completion, would bring the final total to eight on the property. The vote came following a public hearing in which no public comment was given.

6 local racers take checkered flag at Crystal Motor Speedway

It was a beautiful Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway with lots of cars and fans on hand to enjoy the waning days of summer. With only two weeks to accumulate points for season championships, every position gained or lost was critical for some racers. The night was sponsored by H & H Excavating.

Garrett Wiles of Hubbardston moved up from his fifth-place starting position in the Late Model division to win over Logan Nickerson of Vestaburg, Zack Olger of St. Johns, Logan Love of Vestaburg and Nick Kurtz of Greenville. Wiles and Dean Huizenga of Belmont picked up heat wins. In the points race, Derrick Hilliker holds a narrow three-point lead over Kyle Borgman.

Ionia planners recommend new housing development

Former Sparrow Ionia Hospital site eyed for ‘high-end’ housing for senior citizens

A handful of residents spoke in opposition to a proposed planned unit development at part of the former Sparrow Ionia Hospital property.

The Ionia Planning Commission held an Aug. 11 hearing to accept public comment on a final site plan and rezoning application for the property at 533 E. Washington St. in Ionia, which previously served as a hospital parking lot and helipad.
