GRACE FOWLER: Column updates

I was browsing some of my columns over the past few months and I thought I would do some quick follow-ups on a few of them and let you know how things turned out. 

First of all, I wanted to write an update on how the ThunderShirt worked for our anxious dog over the Fourth of July weekend. She wore it every night from Thursday to Monday night and, overall, I really do think it made a positive impact on her anxiety. She tolerated me putting it on her just fine and I think compared to how anxious I have seen her in the past, she was significantly less hyped up. She still panted and shook a bit, but her symptoms were lessened with the addition of the shirt. 

Greenville school board OKs window, door replacements at middle school

Project using about $400,000 in relief funds

As construction continues on more than $10 million in renovations and improvements at Greenville Middle School, a little more funding will be coming the school’s way.

During a special meeting of the Greenville Public Schools Board of Education on July 2, the board voted unanimously to approve as much as $455,000 in additional improvements specific to replacing windows and doors throughout the middle school.

Council revises purchasing ordinance threshold, OKs new police vehicle

The Ionia Theatre sign will soon receive a facelift after the Ionia City Council unanimously approved $8,600 for the job.

City Manager Precia Garland told City Council members at their meeting on July 6 that the city received one bid for the project from Metro Signs & Lighting of Warren to scrape, sand, prime and repaint the double-sided theater sign and bracketing.

Bunce taking next step to cheer at Davenport after making lasting impression with leadership at Belding

Michaela Bunce has a reputation for being a leader. 

After spending three years on Belding’s varsity sideline cheerleading team and four on its competitive cheer team, Bunce formed a solid relationship with coach Stacy Venneman. Through this time, Venneman was been able to watch Bunce grow as a competitor and a teammate. 

Greenville Area Senior Citizens Center reopens its doors following coronavirus pandemic

With dozens of friends, community members and other supporters gathered around her, Pat Lovell could barely believe the sight that had come together while standing on the front steps of the Greenville Area Senior Citizens Center. 

After 16 months of being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the center at 715 S. Baldwin St. celebrated its long-awaited grand reopening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

Wiles, DeYoung pick up feature wins at Crystal Motor Speedway


Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway started with some overcast skies, but everything held for a good night of racing action.

In the Late Model division, Garrett Wiles of Hubbardston held off comers to take the win. Last week’s winner, Michael Archer of Jackson, moved up from his tenth place starting position to take second, followed by Logan Nickerson of Vestaburg, Logan Love, Vestaburg, and Chris Rinard, Ithaca. Wiles and Carl Ries of Blanchard claimed heat wins.
