Spots still available for Wounded Soldier Softball Tournament
The Wounded Soldier Softball Tournament will be held June 25-27 in Greenville.
There are still spots open for teams to participate in this fundraising event. This year will mark the seventh annual event with proceeds benefitting service men, women and families who have been injured in the line of duty.

Central Montcalm softball gets second regional title in program history, defeats Calvin Christian and North Muskegon in regionalsAs Izzy Doyle watched a North Muskegon player hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning of Saturday’s softball regional final in Grandville, she gathered with her teammates and was all smiles.
Doyle said it’s emblematic of her improved outlook in the circle as the pitcher and one of the senior leaders of Central Montcalm and it was representative of how far this team has come in terms of confidence.
A lasting legacy
Conducting from the 50-yard line of Legacy Field on a warm, spring evening in May, Susan Gould could be observed relishing every note and chord that emerged from her band students as they performed an outdoor concert to the delight of family and friends.
For the students, it was both their first and final live concert of the year, a year that was plagued by interruptions, cancellations and numerous safety restrictions and protocols due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Crystal Township Board debates renewable energy ordinance
While multiple townships within Montcalm County are working on creating wind and solar energy ordinances, Crystal Township is taking a different route.
The township has been told that Apex Clean Energy currently is not looking at Crystal for its proposed Montcalm Wind project; however, the majority of township officials also aren’t necessarily in a hurry to create any major restrictions against wind turbines at this time.

Police arrest alleged reckless RV driver after lengthy chase
FREEA woman driving an RV was arrested on Saturday afternoon after she allegedly led police from several agencies on a chase, during which multiple patrol and civilian vehicles were damaged, and a Kent County sheriff’s deputy was injured.
