Lowell man has his day in court … twice

An Ionia County Circuit Court judge denied a motion by a Lowell man for new counsel Tuesday morning.

In return, the defendant flipped the judge off.

Fenwick man goes AWOL, skips sentencing for third OWI

A “repeat drunk driver” from Fenwick did not show up for sentencing Tuesday in Ionia County Circuit Court, and no one seems to know his whereabouts.

That concerns the sentencing judge. Very much.

Sentencing options still being discussed for 16-year-old involved in Portland shooting incident

The last of the four young men involved in a shooting in Portland on Labor Day 2019 is still awaiting sentencing.

Because he was 16 at the time of the shooting, the matter is not a simple one.

Local health officer voices frustrations with COVID-19 vaccine shortage

There are not enough COVID-19 vaccines to address even the highest priority local groups in a timely manner until April, or even later.

That was the message repeated by Mid-Michigan District Health Department Health Officer Marcus Cheatham twice on Monday — first at noon during Montcalm County Legislative Update, then again at 4:30 p.m. to the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners.
