Belding Area Schools hosts board member candidate forum

Seated in front of Belding High School’s auditorium Monday, three candidates running for two seats on the Belding Area Schools Board of Education this election made a case for why they want to serve the district in this manner.

During Monday’s regular meeting, the Belding Area School Board of Education hosted a candidate forum to hear from Shannon Hummel, Lary Richmond and Michael A. Baker and their reasoning for wanting to be elected as a board member, which is a six-year term.

Belding Area Schools to bring K-5 students back to face-to-face instruction four days a week

Belding Area Schools K-5 students will be returning to face-to-face learning four days a week starting Oct. 26, while middle and high school students will remain hybrid for the time being.

During Monday’s regular meeting, the Belding Area Schools Board of Education voted 6-1 to allow K-5 students to resume in-person learning on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Board Vice President Shannon Hummel cast the lone opposing vote.

Ionia schools asks elementary students to return to school in person

Ionia elementary school students are being asked to return to their classrooms in person the first week in November unless they have a waiver.

The Ionia Public Schools Board of Education discussed Monday night a recommendation by elementary school principals to “strongly encourage” the majority of students to return.

Crystal receives extrication equipment grant, hears Bank Committee updates

New extrication equipment will soon be coming to the Crystal Township Fire Department.

During last week’s regular meeting, Fire Chief Mike Fitzpatrick informed the Crystal Township Board that the fire department recently received a grant for new extrication equipment.
