Frugthaven Farm reopens with new ‘Kaffebar’ experience

As light from the sunrise beamed over the apple trees at Frugthaven Farm, owner April Petersen was beaming as well — with joy, excitement and perhaps a little anxiety too.

April and her husband, Mike, were celebrating the re-opening of their establishment Tuesday since closing their doors in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Work underway on new gym floor at CC-C Community Fieldhouse

Carson City-Crystal Area Schools is getting a new gym floor inside the upper elementary, middle and high school building at no cost to the district.

During last week’s meeting, CC-C Athletic Director Travis Wilcox told the Board of Education that work on the Community Fieldhouse floor has already begun.

Beatnik Bazaar organizer concerned with Belding police chief comments

After reading comments directed toward the Beatnik Bazaar in the Aug. 12 issue of the Daily News, Jenny Bennett came before the Belding City Council on Tuesday to address some concerns related to communications between city department heads.

Search for shooter in Ionia Township comes up empty

Deputies from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office discovered an illegal camp and a firearm Tuesday evening, but no subjects when they responded to a report of shooting in the area.

Deputies arrived at 6:19 p.m. at Quarry Road near the bike path and spoke with multiple people who told them a man was living on the state of Michigan land east of Quarry Road and that he had allegedly discharged a weapon, according to Ionia County Sheriff’s Office Det. Sgt. Phillip Hesche.
