District announces reductions and cuts due to coronavirus pandemic

Reading off a list of items during a special board meeting, Greenville Public Schools Superintendent Linda Van Houten took no pleasure with each announced item — all cuts for the coming school year.

From reduced hours to layoffs, Van Houten and her staff have spent the past several weeks solidifying reductions and cuts to ensure it could present a balanced budget that can account for anticipated millions in reduced revenues in reaction to the coronavirus pandemic.

MAISD approves 2020-2021 budget

Future amendments likely required once state revenue decreases are announced

In presenting the proposed Montcalm Area Intermediate School District (MAISD) budget for the upcoming school year, there was one word Stephanie Weese used repetitively to describe her efforts — “assumptions.”

The MAISD associate superintendent for business proposed the budget during the June 25 meeting of the MAISD Board of Education held virtually via Zoom.

No fireworks in Portland, just among officials
