Industry experts will tell most restaurant owners it takes three to five years to earn a profit, but at Flat River Brewing Co., there’s been little cause for concern in the first year of operation with such support from the community.
However, entering the restaurant’s first spring season, the coronavirus pandemic hit, and not yet eight months into being open, everything changed for the business at 300 W. Greenville West Drive in Greenville.

Sitting in a styling chair with Jim Hopkins’ steady hands overhead while he worked to color her hair, Marcie Bauer was smiling with excitement — although you couldn’t see it through her face mask.
“I couldn’t wait for today. My hair was driving me crazy,” the Sheridan woman said with a laugh.

As the weather continues to heat up and restrictions on outdoor social gatherings are lifted, many Crystal residents are looking forward to the opportunity of walking down to Crystal Lake to lay on the beach or swim in the water.
Depending on how negotiations with the beachfront property owners go, the Crystal Township Board is hoping to offer that opportunity to residents once again this year.

A one-car crash in Eureka Township left two people injured this weekend.
At approximately 1 a.m. Sunday, the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-car crash on Snows Lake Road, east of River Road, in Eureka Township.
