Carson City woman takes service year after graduating early, finds ways to get involved in community outreach

Christina Schafer has long known that she wants to help people.

Christina graduated from Carson City-Crystal High School as a junior in 2019 after petitioning the school board so that she could complete a service year before starting college.

Bucking statewide trend, MCC summer enrollment numbers up nearly 8%

As schools from the levels of elementary to college brace for the unknown of a full fall semester held amid the coronavirus pandemic, an early silver lining has emerged at Montcalm Community College (MCC).

During the June 9 meeting of the MCC Board of Trustees held online via Microsoft Teams, College President Stacy Young shared a statistic that puts the college on the opposite end of most institutions at this time — it’s enrollment is trending upward.

Libraries continue phased reopenings

Area libraries continue to reopen in phases after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer began lifting the stay-at-home order put in place amid concerns around the spread of the coronavirus.

White Pine District Library in Stanton began Phase 3 of its reopening process this past Wednesday, which allows for curbside pick-up and other non-entry services, according to Library Director Patty Rockafellow.

JUST IN: Multiple people injured in Pierson Township car accident

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post are investigating a two-vehicle traffic crash Friday resulting in serious injuries to numerous occupants of the vehicles involved.

Troopers were dispatched to Federal Road at Cannonsville Road around 5:55 p.m.
