The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will host a town hall meeting on chronic wasting disease from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Ash Foundation Building at the Montcalm County Fairgrounds at 8784 Peck Road just north of Greenville.

The Montcalm County Clerk’s Vital Records/Elections Office is now only open three days per week due to $50,000 in budget cuts to the two clerk offices. The office in the Montcalm County Administrative Building will only be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, after the part-time administrative aide in that office was put on notice that her position is being eliminated effective Nov. 30.

At first it looked as though the Belding Black Knights volleyball team just had a bad first game against conference foe Hopkins, but it was the Vikings who shook off a bad game to take series 3-1 Thursday. After a rugged first game of the best-of-five series, losing 25-16, the Black Knights responded with a dominant game two, beating the Vikings 25-11 after starting the game on a 8-0 run.

Hornets golfer Kala Daggett qualifies for states

One area athlete will be representing the sport of golf this weekend in East Lansing. Central Montcalm’s Kala Daggett finished her round at the Shepherd Regionals last Wednesday with a score of 104, which was good enough to earn a top three spot in the individual qualifiers for state.
