Simulating hardship

United Way brings reality of financial hardship to forefront with poverty simulation challenge 

Answering question after question on her phone, Stephanie Reed could only shrug as she looked to decide as to whether to celebrate the birthday of a fictional 1-year-old child. 

Like the many people seated around her during a recent meeting of the Coalition of Greater Greenville, Reed was attempting to navigate through a series of questions that painted a picture of a family attempting to balance the expenses of living against life events.
