“A hunting match” — Reprinted from the Stanton Herald: On Tuesday last, a hunting match came off between the principal sportsmen of Stanton, ten upon each side, chosen by Dr. Wilkinson and H.L. Parker. They made altogether about 3,200 counts, the side of Dr. Wilkinson leading 480. Great havoc was made among the squirrels, chipmunks, birds, etc. One deer was killed, but was not brought in in time to be counted. The day’s sporting terminated in the evening at Vinecore’s Hotel, where they partook of a bountiful supper upon tables spread with a great variety of edibles, prepared in the best style. The day’s ramble through the woods made for them an appetite which enabled them to enjoy the refreshments with the keenest relish.
