Preparing for a ‘lawncare battle’

Pets and shade areas are two obstacles a homeowner faces every summer in keeping a good, healthy lawn

Every spring, I look out my backyard and I see it as a battlefield. And when the thaw comes, it sure looks like it.

My top two adversaries in fighting for a nice-looking lawn are usually the umbrella-like shade I have from our tall trees and our two dogs — specifically our two dogs’ urine, which is like toxic, nuclear acid on our grass.
