New scholarship started for Greenville students

GREENVILLE — Greenville High School’s Honor Week has been a longstanding tradition where awards, recognition, and scholarships are given to deserving students.

This year, a group of dedicated alumni have come together to add one more scholarship to the mix. The GHS Alumni Scholarship is available for high school graduates (certificate or diploma) from GHS in good standing pursuing any degree, certification, apprenticeship, or program to further their education or career path. The $500 scholarship will be given to a selected recipient at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

In collaboration with the Greenville Area Community Foundation, the goal of the GHS Alumni Scholarship Fund (GHSASF) is to raise $10,000 for a permanent endowment fund. This will ensure that scholarships will be given for long into the future.

Every GHS alumni is invited to participate in this effort. The Greenville area has a strong history of coming together to support its community, and this is another way to show our students we believe and support them in their next chapter of their life.

To kick off this year’s fundraising efforts, the GHSASF is challenging each class to raise $2,500 per class to support the fund. The class of 2009 is well on its way to meeting that challenge and would like to be joined by more classes.
