EVERGREEN TOWNSHIP — A mother and her 6-year-old daughter have been hospitalized and are in critical condition following a head-on crash this morning.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post are investigating a two-vehicle, head-on crash that occurred at 6:26 a.m. on Sidney Road near Stevenson Road.

The initial investigation shows that a vehicle traveling eastbound, driven by a 37-year-old male from Crystal, crossed the centerline and struck a Subaru, driven by a 29-year-old female and her 6-year-old daughter, also from Crystal, head-on.

The Subaru caught on fire as a result of the crash.

According to the MSP, a nurse drove upon the scene immediately following the crash and “heroically rescued the female driver and child” from the burning vehicle.

The mother and child were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The male driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Troopers were assisted by Montcalm County EMS, the Sheridan Community and Stanton Community fire departments and Sixth District Accident Reconstructionist.

The crash remains under investigation.
