I first clued in to how good philanthropy can feel when I was a cub reporter at the Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder, Colo. covering the nonprofit beat. The stories I got to write represented some of the best in humanity: people donating time, food, clothing, money, etcetera for all kinds of causes.
They also represented difficult circumstances: families who lost everything, folks fighting to survive, kids and young adults without parents to go home to.
