Ionia County Board of Commissioners deny election requests

Republican Party had requested paper ballots, hand count of May recall election

Basing their decision on a legal review by the county’s attorney, the Ionia County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted on Tuesday to deny election-related requests from the Ionia County Republican Party.

Ionia County GOP Vice Chairperson Kristie Walls had requested that the county use paper ballots and count them by hand instead of using an optical scanner with proprietary software to tally the results of the May 2 election, a recall of Keene Township Supervisor Robert Simpson and Treasurer Kara Albert.
