FAIRPLAINS TOWNSHIP — A 22-year-old Fenwick man died in a Saturday morning crash on Fenwick Road west of Barnes Road.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Lakeview Post responded to the incident around 10:39 a.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed the man was driving westbound on Fenwick Road when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway to the left, overturned while striking numerous trees and came to rest on its roof. The man was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
A 25-year-old female passenger was partially ejected and trapped in the vehicle. She was extracted by witnesses and was transported to the hospital by Montcalm EMS with serious injuries.
Speed and lack of seatbelt use are believed to be a factors in this crash.
The crash remains under investigation by police. Troopers were assisted by the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office, Sheridan Fire Department, Montcalm EMS and Montcalm County Central Dispatch.
