ELECTION PREVIEW: Montcalm County voters asked to renew law enforcement millage


Nearly four years ago, Montcalm County voters approved a new law enforcement millage with the goal of rebuilding the Sheriff’s Office from years of budget cuts and restoring 24/7 road patrol — a service the county has been without since 2012 — with the goal of hiring 14 deputies.

Almost immediately after that March 10, 2020, vote, the COVID pandemic descended, throwing everything into upheaval.
