| Eagles host CC-C Open meet |
CARSON CITY - A pair of area boys and girls cross country teams ran as fast as they could on Wednesday at the early season Carson City-Crystal Open.
Belding and Carson City-Crystal battled five other teams at the Fish Creek Sportsmen Club. The Redskins boys ended the race in fifth place while the girls finished in the seventh slot.

HOWARD CITY - It was a rough start to the 2010 football season last week for the Tri County Vikings.
The Vikings lost 33-6 on the road to Cedar Spring. The Red Hawks managed 480 yards rushing with two players topping the 100-yard mark.

The Mohawks, 2009 district champions, cruised to a straight set win over the Yellow Jackets 25-9, 25-13, 25-9 at North Gymnasium.

STANTON - The Belding Redskins used their height, power, quickness and teamwork to win the annual Daily News Volleyball Invitational at Central Montcalm High School on Saturday.
The Redskins defeated the Greenville Yellow Jackets 25-11, 25-22 for their second consecutive tournament title and fourth in five years.

The Greenville Yellow Jackets earned a 42-7 opening night win over longtime rival Belding at Black Field. The Yellow Jackets dominated defensively and excelled on special teams with four blocked punts.

For the 86th consecutive season the Belding Redskins (5-4 in 2009) and Greenville Yellow Jackets (5-4 in 2009) will meet, this time at Black Field in Greenville. The Yellow Jackets defeated Belding 28-17 in a tight game last year at Rudness Field.

| Ionia team wins Danish Festival men's softball title |
GREENVILLE - Scoogy's Sports Bar of Ionia needed to win two games against Ed Koehn of Greenville to claim the Danish Festival Men's Softball championship.
Scoogy's rolled to a 19-9 triumph in the first game they played against Koehn's. The Ionia team scored 10 runs with the score tied 9-9 in the fourth inning to break the game wide open.

GREENVILLE - Tim Rydahl finally got a win in his hometown.
Rydahl, of Greenville, won the 6,500 light limited super stock tractor class at the Michigan Truck And Tractor Pullers Association event at the Montcalm County Fairgrounds on Saturday as part of the Danish Festival. He won $150 for his winning pull.

TRAVERSE CITY - The Greenville girls golf team finished the day in Traverse City in the same position as they began the day.
The Yellow Jackets placed fourth in Division 2 at the Traverse City Central Invitational at the Grand Traverse Resort on Thursday. They wrapped up the two-day tournament on the Spruce Run course.

TRAVERSE CITY - The Greenville girls golf team began the 2010 season at the beautiful Grand Traverse Resort on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets finished the opening round of the two day tournament in fourth place out of 12 teams with a score of 353. East Lansing leads with 339, followed by Muskegon Mona Shores at 345 and Port Huron Northern with 352.
