CRYSTAL - A 24-year old St. Louis, Mich., man is hospitalized today in Lansing after a snowmobile accident on Crystal Lake on Sunday afternoon.
At 12:07 p.m., Curtiss Warren McNeill was driving a 1995 Polaris snowmobile on Crystal Lake when the throttle stuck wide open. He said he attempted to stop the machine using the brakes and kill switch but was unable to do so.
An on-duty Montcalm County sheriff's deputy witnessed the crash and said the snowmobile didn't appear to slow down before it struck a steel seawall at the Crystal Township beach.
McNeill, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, was thrown from the snowmobile and struck a park bench. He was transported to Carson City Hospital and later was transferred to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing with nonlife-threatening injuries. No condition report was available today.
The sheriff's office said alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.
