CRYSTAL - Golfers have been playing at the Crystal Golf Course since 1929.
The course has been operated by the Nodus family since 1947. The Noduses have seen many changes over their 60 years of ownership.
"We have updated the irrigation and I planted about 400 to 500 trees out there," said Vic Nodus. "The trees tightened up the fairways a bit."
The Crystal Golf Course has two separate layouts. One is a nine-hole par 35 course. The other is a 1,000-yard par 27 layout. All nine holes are par 3s. "We added the par three course during the 1960s, said Bob Nodus.
He described the par 35 course as small and narrow.
"We are not very long. We have a creek that runs the course and a lot of trees," Nodus said. "Our greens are pretty small also."
The greens are bent grass cut down to three-sixteenths of an inch in height. The fairways are bluegrass trimmed to three-fourths of an inch tall.
The course also is the site of five leagues throughout the week.
"Monday, Thursday and Friday we have leagues," Nodus said. "We have an open league on Fridays and a ladies league on Tuesday mornings."
He said a lot of vacationers play the course.
"People that have a cottage on nearby Crystal Lake come over here and play quite often," said Nodus. "But we also have some golfers that play here that have been playing here since the 1930s."

I would have loved to read about the golf course from 1929 to 1947. Milo Wetmore was an old friend of my father's, and I have been told that his parents built the course in 1929. Did you get any information on that?
